Social media changed again … what now?

Constant social media updates make upkeep of marketing materials a challenge.

How many times have you gone to one of your social media accounts just to find out that it looks completely different than the last time you visited? For all of the advantages of the new features and the increasing use of new technology, it can be incredibly difficult to keep up with. Internet Marketing is changing the world of marketing at a dizzying pace, but it doesn’t come without it’s challenges.

Just last month, LinkedIn added Showcase Pages, Google+ changed their cover image size (again…), and Pinterest added Place Pins. Believe me, if I wrote this post in any other month in recent history, it would just be three different links. I know what you are thinking: “Really?  I have enough to do today, do I have to spend half of my day trying to figure out what this means?”  I feel you. It can be maddening and tiring. How on earth can you keep up and still run your business?

If you haven’t updated your Google+ image, it may look a little out-of-whack after the most recent update.

Well, I wish the answer was simpler, but in this case you just have to try to do the best you can. Take a quick look at what changed, determine if you need to make an immediate update or if it can wait. For example, if you have a local business, it might be worth looking into Place Pins to increase your local reach. If you have an old Google+ cover image, and it doesn’t look horrible with the new layout, then put it on the to-do list or get a request out to our graphic designer on the “not urgent” list.

Similar to trying to keep track of the IRS tax rules, sometimes it’s best to leave it to the experts. Keeping our fingers on the pulse of the Internet world is what good marketing companies do. It is our job to keep track of the latest and greatest ways to use social media to promote your business. Your time is best spent working in and on your business.

If you are a business owner who knows the value of social media, but doesn’t have the time (or energy) to keep up with break-neck pace of the changes, we’ve got you covered. We can help you navigate it and even make it fun! (OK, no promises there). Give us a call and we’ll help you get on track.
